The gathering place of the Tema Ghana Stake came alive on 29th September 2024 as the Young Single Adults (YSAs) from across the stake assembled to witness the launch of the Tema Campus Institute. This much-anticipated Campus Institute is aimed at providing a spiritual and social foundation for YSAs, fostering self-improvement, stronger relationships, and a path to maturity.

The launch was attended by key leaders within the stake, including President Dennis Appiah Kubi, the Second Counselor in the Stake Presidency; Brother Emmanuel Amissah Forson, Specialist for the Tema Campus Institute; Sister Thornton, a YSA Gathering Place Missionary; and Brother Prince Mensah, the S&I Coordinator responsible for the stake. Their collective messages echoed the importance of the Campus Institute and the vital role it plays in the lives of YSAs.

In his remarks, President Appiah Kubi emphasized the need for young adults to be involved in the Institute’s activities to strengthen their spirituality and interpersonal relationships. He highlighted how the Institute is not only a place for learning gospel principles but also a setting for personal growth and self-discovery. Brother Forson and Brother Mensah, tasked with overseeing the institute, echoed similar sentiments, underscoring that participation in the various programs offered at the campus would shape the participants’ spiritual, social, and emotional well-being.

The launch was a milestone for the stake and the YSA community. It marks a significant step in the stake’s efforts to provide meaningful opportunities for YSAs to grow spiritually, socially, and emotionally. They introduced two flagship programs that will undoubtedly expand into other programs in the future.

Morning Program: Breakfast with the Prophet

The first program, titled “Breakfast with the Prophet,” a spiritually enriching experience that connects the YSAs with messages from modern-day prophets. This program will give the participants an opportunity to reflect on the teachings of church leaders and apply them to their daily lives. Over breakfast, they will delve into prophetic counsel, strengthening their commitment to gospel living.

Afternoon Program: Missionary Preparation Class

For the second program in the afternoon, attention will shift to missionary work, with a comprehensive “Missionary Preparation Class“. This class is designed to prepare YSAs for full-time missionary service, as well as to instill a deeper understanding of sharing the gospel. The practical lessons will help participants gain confidence in their ability to teach and serve.

Engaging Activities to Build Unity

The second part of the event was directed by two dynamic facilitators, Sisters Chloe and Hazel Alafegha-Quakumey, who are siblings from the Batsona 2 Ward YSA, organized fun and engaging activities for the YSAs. These activities not only encouraged teamwork and strengthened friendships but also created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere for all in attendance.

As the programs expand in the coming months, YSAs are encouraged to fully engage and participate, knowing that the institute is dedicated to helping them build a solid foundation for the future.

The leadership of the Tema Ghana Stake looks forward to seeing the positive impact the Campus Institute will have on the young adults as they continue their journey towards maturity and spiritual strength.

The Tema Ghana Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints embarked on an inspiring endeavor that left a lasting mark on the community. The All-Africa Service Project held in the heart of Tema Newtown. With brooms in hand and hearts brimming with goodwill, members of the stake converged on this lively area to partake in a massive cleaning exercise that aimed to restore the sparkle to the neighborhood.

A Gathering of Purpose

The 2023 All-Africa Service Project held by the Tema Ghana Stake was more than just a cleaning exercise; it was a celebration of communal spirit and a deep-seated dedication to giving back. Tema Newtown, a bustling neighborhood known for its rich cultural heritage, had the honor of being the canvas for this act of service. Members from different congregations within the stake came together, embodying the principle of unity that serves as a cornerstone of their faith.

A Transformative Cleanup

The streets of Tema Newtown buzzed with a sense of purpose as volunteers donned their gloves, grabbed brooms, and set to work. The scope of the project was impressive—it encompassed the cleaning of the durbar grounds, the bustling lorry station, the bustling gurtars, and the surrounding streets. What emerged was a powerful testament to what a collective effort can achieve.

Beyond the Broom: Fostering Connections

While the primary objective was to restore cleanliness to the area, the event extended beyond physical cleaning. It became a platform for fostering connections, bridging gaps, and building relationships. As members of the stake engaged with the community, sharing laughter, stories, and conversations, they cemented their commitment to being positive contributors to the well-being of Tema Newtown.

An Act of Love and Reverence

The cleaning exercise was an embodiment of the values upheld by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Service, in its purest form, became a vehicle for expressing love and reverence for the community and its people. It wasn’t merely about picking up litter; it was about demonstrating that every corner of the world, no matter how big or small, deserves care and attention.

Leaving a Lasting Legacy

As the sun began to set on the day of the service project, the impact of the collective efforts was palpable. The durbar grounds regained their vibrancy, the lorry station looked refreshed, and the streets appeared ready to welcome brighter days. But beyond the visible transformation, an intangible legacy had been left—the memory of a day when a diverse group came together to serve a common cause.

A Call to Continue

The 2023 All-Africa Service Project in Tema Newtown is a reminder that service knows no bounds. It’s a call to action, urging each of us to look beyond ourselves and find ways to contribute to the betterment of our communities. Just as the Ghana Stake united to make a difference, so too can we, in our own ways, make a positive impact that ripples far beyond our immediate surroundings.

In the end, the cleaning exercise was not only a physical renewal but a renewal of the spirit of unity, service, and compassion. It serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that when people come together with purpose, they have the power to transform lives and neighborhoods, one sweep at a time.
