On the sacred occasion of Easter Sunday, the Tema Tabernacle Choir, alongside the renowned EmVic Carole, orchestrated an unforgettable devotional at the Tema Ghana Stake Center on March 31st. This gathering transcended mere music; it was a harmonious celebration uniting members from the stake and visitors alike in a soul-stirring experience.

The anticipation was palpable as attendees streamed into the stake center, eager to partake in an evening of spiritual enrichment and musical splendor. As the event unfolded, it became evident that they were in for a treat unlike any other.

EmVic Carole, the featured guest, mesmerized the audience with their distinctive musical flair. Their performance was a blend of passion, skill, and reverence, infusing the atmosphere with an aura of divine inspiration. The young singers accompanying them showcased remarkable talent, captivating hearts and minds with each note they sang.

However, the magic didn’t stop there. The Tema Tabernacle Choir, known for their exceptional artistry, rose to the occasion with unmatched fervor. Their rendition of Easter hymns and anthems resonated deeply, evoking a sense of reverence and joy that filled the hall.

Amidst the melodic splendour, leaders from the Church offered messages of hope, faith, and renewal, enriching the spiritual tapestry of the evening. Their words resonated with the audience, offering guidance and encouragement in a world often fraught with challenges.

Throughout the devotional, the synergy between EmVic Carole and the host choir was palpable, creating an atmosphere of unity and spiritual elevation. Together, they transcended barriers of language and culture, touching the souls of all who were present.

For attendees, it was more than just a musical performance; it was a spiritual journey, a testament to the power of music to uplift and inspire. As voices blended in harmonious praise, hearts were lifted, and spirits soared.

In the end, the Easter devotional at the Tema Ghana Stake Center was not merely an event—it was a divine encounter, a moment of profound connection with the sacred. On February 23rd, 2024, the Young Single Adults (YSA) Devotional’s Personal Development Series kicked off its first session at the Gathering Center in Community 10. Welcoming a packed room of enthusiastic young adults, the program featured guest speaker Margaret Titus-Glover, a highly experienced Human Resource (HR) practitioner.

Ms. Titus-Glover, a certified HR professional with over 17 years of experience in HR strategy, training, and professional development, brought valuable insights to the YSA audience. Her educational background, spanning universities in the UK and Ghana, coupled with her experience as the founder of MS Staffing, an HR consulting, training, and recruitment firm in Ghana, made her well-equipped to address the specific needs of young adults seeking career advancement.

Ms. Titus-Glover delved into the crucial yet often daunting task of preparing for the job market. Her insightful presentation focused on two key areas: crafting impactful resumes and mastering the art of interviewing.

Crafting a Winning Resume:

Ms. Titus-Glover emphasized the importance of tailoring your resume to each specific job you apply for. She offered various tips on how to effectively highlight your skills and experiences, including:

  • Utilizing keywords: Identifying and incorporating relevant keywords from the job description demonstrates a clear understanding of the desired qualifications and increases your chances of passing through applicant tracking systems.
  • Quantifying accomplishments: Don’t just list your responsibilities, quantify your achievements. Use numbers and data to showcase the impact you made in previous roles, making your resume stand out from the crowd.
  • Action verbs: Employ strong action verbs to describe your past experiences. Words like “managed,” “spearheaded,” and “developed” showcase your initiative and leadership qualities.
  • Clarity and conciseness: Keep your resume concise and easy to read. Use clear formatting and ensure all information is presented accurately and professionally.

Mastering the Interview:

Following her resume-building insights, Ms. Titus-Glover transitioned to the equally important aspect of interview preparation. She provided valuable advice on how to confidently navigate the interview process, including:

  • Research the company and role: Demonstrating knowledge about the company and the specific position shows genuine interest and initiative.
  • Prepare common interview questions: Practice answering anticipated questions like “Tell me about yourself” and “Why are you interested in this position?” Tailor your responses to highlight your skills and experiences relevant to the job.
  • Dress professionally: First impressions matter. Dress appropriately for the job and company culture to project professionalism and confidence.
  • Ask insightful questions: Prepare thoughtful questions for the interviewer. This shows your curiosity and engagement in the opportunity.
  • Follow up: Send a thank-you note after the interview, reiterating your interest in the position and summarizing your key qualifications.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A session, allowing attendees to ask further questions and receive personalized advice from Ms. Titus-Glover. This interactive approach fostered a positive learning environment and empowered young adults to confidently navigate their career journeys.

The YSA Devotional’s Personal Development Series promises to equip young adults with valuable life skills beyond the realm of spiritual growth. This inaugural session on career preparation served as a valuable resource for the YSA community, offering practical tools and strategies for successfully entering the workforce. With more sessions planned, the series holds the potential to empower young adults in Community 10 and beyond as they embark on their professional journeys.

On December 2nd, the Christiansburg Stake Center transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and community spirit as it hosted the Gathering Place Summit 2023 Exhibition. The event, which attracted dignitaries from various religious organizations and schools, showcased the diverse talents and transformative impact of the Gathering Place activities.

The exhibition commenced with a heartwarming opening ceremony, where speakers shared personal testimonies about how their lives had been positively impacted by the Gathering Place initiatives. Their stories resonated with the audience, highlighting the profound influence of these activities in fostering personal growth, skill development, and community engagement.

Attendees were then invited to explore the various showcases, each representing a unique aspect what the Gathering Place offers. From the exquisite floral arrangements and bridal wear to the captivating displays of beauty and fashion, food and catering, computer programming and video editing, and some insight on pathway connect and institute classes, the exhibition showcased the depth of creativity and talent within the community.

The diverse range of showcases provided a tangible demonstration of the Gathering Place’s commitment to nurturing creativity, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting personal growth. The event served as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in empowering individuals and enriching lives.

Testimonies from some YSAs

The positive impact of the Gathering Place Exhibition was evident in the glowing testimonials shared by the young single adults. Here are a few of their experiences:

It was wonderful 🥰 We bonded more as YSAs in the Stake as well as meeting other YSAs.
I learned so much at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. One thing that l kept was “God’s power aids in Money power… Education is key no matter who we are and we should be ambassadors of it

We took turns in explaining what our booth had to offer others who came by (l arose an interest there which I’m adding to my soft skill box). I found joy in discussing the benefits of registering for Pathway and how Help Start could aid in their educational journey.

Now with the series of accidents we encountered l saw Heavenly Father’s hand in each one of them. A principal l learned is that, we can’t take God out of anything we do. We normally will take praying before we do anything lightly, but l must say, it works so many miracles. I have learned to trust God more completely now and he does come through for us in the most difficult times in our lives.

It was a whole defining experience for us, especially me. We express gratitude to Heavenly Father for our lives. 🙏🏽It was indeed an eventful day yesterday.
Obed
It was a beautiful moment. An opportunity to meet new people, an opportunity to get new inspiration. I could feel the commitment level of YSA’s in learning a skill.

I learned from the Chancellor of Wisconsin University that it is better to be educated and be unemployed than not being educated and unemployed.

Elder Simons also said that the Church has so many resources to make us succeed. Let’s take advantage of what the Gathering Place has for us.
Tony

The Gathering Place Exhibition served as a beacon of creativity, community, and personal growth, inspiring attendees and affirming the transformative power of these initiatives. As the event concluded, it left a lasting impression, reminding us of the boundless possibilities that emerge when individuals come together to share their talents, support one another, and contribute to the betterment of their community.

On November 2, members of the Tema Ghana Stake, sister stakes and friends of the church gathered at the Tema Ghana Stake Center for a spiritually enriching and educational experience. The special guest for the evening was President Brian Ashton, President of BYU Worldwide. Accompanied by President Todd Miner (Vice President of Field Operations, BYU-PW), brother Rory Bigelow (Associate Administrator, Seminaries and Institutes) and brother Victor Ukorebi (International Area Manager, BYU-PW), this devotional was a testament to the commitment of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to God’s great plan for education and how they are actively participating in its fulfilment.

The theme of the evening centered around education and the opportunities it provides in strengthening one’s faith and building a brighter future. President Brian Ashton shared insights about the remarkable initiatives of BYU Worldwide, particularly BYU Pathway, a program designed to make higher education more accessible to students around the world.

President Ashton’s message was clear: Being established is essential as it means that we live in an exalted state with Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ and education is also key to achieving this state. Education is not only a means of personal development but also a way to align oneself with God’s divine plan. He discussed several key points that highlighted the unique advantages of studying under BYU Pathway.

He emphasized the affordability of education through BYU Worldwide. He explained that the programs offered through BYU Pathway are exceptionally cost-effective, making higher education attainable for individuals from diverse economic backgrounds. Additionally, he highlighted the availability of scholarships, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder one’s pursuit of knowledge and spiritual growth.

The reduction in the number of credits required to obtain a degree from 120 to 90 was also brought up. This change was implemented to help students reach their educational goals more quickly, allowing them to serve and contribute to their communities sooner while still receiving a quality education.

President Brian Ashton also discussed the remarkable job opportunities that become available to students while pursuing their education through BYU Pathway. This practical approach enables students to gain real-world experience and financial independence while working towards their degree and after completion of the BYU pathway program

Following president Ashton’s inspiring address, a question-and-answer session provided an opportunity for attendees to express their concerns and receive satisfying answers. Many shared their inquiries regarding various aspects of BYU Pathway, from program structure to job readiness. The detailed and compassionate responses reassured the audience that this educational endeavor is a well-rounded and supportive opportunity for those who embark on it.

The event at the Tema Ghana Stake Center was not just a gathering of Latter-day Saints but an illustration of how education can serve as a vehicle for spiritual growth and personal development. The teachings of the gospel and the principles of education were interwoven to demonstrate that both are integral components of a fulfilling and faithful life.

In a world where education plays a pivotal role in shaping one’s future, the initiatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through BYU Worldwide are a beacon of hope for individuals striving to follow God’s great plan for their lives.

Last week’s Stake Conference was a profound testament to the strength of our faith community, bringing us together in unity and devotion. In the spirit of sharing and spiritual connection, we are excited to present a collection of heartfelt testimonials from visitors who joined us for this remarkable event. These personal accounts serve as a reflection of the spiritual growth, inspiration, and renewal experienced by those who attended. We invite you to read on, as we immerse ourselves in the uplifting stories and powerful testimonies that emerged from our unforgettable conference.

I’m glad to read that you enjoyed our meeting on Sunday! I had a great time too and I agree that it would be wonderful to have more gatherings like that during conference. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other. The weekend was filled with uplifting moments and inspiring talks. I especially loved the sense of unity and community that was present throughout. I believe that was possible because our meeting with you made those of us who were present sit attentively at the front. And me sitting at the front for the first time since I joined the church was a good thing. I saw things differently from the usual back benching position I normally prefer during conferences 😅Can’t wait for more memorable experiences like this in the future! 😄🙌✨
I wasn’t present from the beginning but engaging with a few people after the conference convinced me that it worth it. Having such moments repeated in stake conferences will be great, I saw some new faces😁 of which I believe that not all of them are non-member friends. It was an opportunity to get to see old friends and interact with them. Thank you for the YSA session

The entrepreneurial devotional series held at the Gathering Place at Old MTC, hosted a wonderfully enlightening event with Ms. Ivy P Frimpong, who’s the Deputy Chief Dietitian at the well-known 37 Military Hospital. The event aimed to make the ideas about a healthy diet easier to understand. It talked about how much to eat and also encouraged people to make smart choices that can help them stay well throughout their lives.

Ms. Ivy P Frimpong’s impressive credentials as a Deputy Chief Dietitian immediately set the stage for an informative and eye-opening session. With her wealth of experience and expertise, attendees were in for a treat as she effortlessly delved into the intricacies of healthy eating.

Understanding the Basics: Serving vs. Portion

One of the core takeaways from Ms. Frimpong’s presentation was the importance of understanding the distinction between a serving and a portion. Often used interchangeably, these terms hold different meanings when it comes to our dietary choices.

A “serving” refers to a standardized amount of food, typically mentioned on nutritional labels. On the other hand, a “portion” is the amount of food we choose to put on our plate. By learning to differentiate between the two, attendees were empowered to control their intake more effectively, fostering a healthier relationship with food.

Start Small: The Gateway to Satiety

Ms. Frimpong emphasized a valuable principle: “Start small.” This mantra serves as a powerful reminder that gradual changes to our eating habits can lead to long-lasting benefits. By training the body to be satisfied with smaller portions, we can prevent overeating and improve our overall well-being.

Crafting a Lifelong Healthy Eating Pattern

A central theme of Ms. Frimpong’s presentation was the significance of adopting a healthy eating pattern across all stages of life. This entails focusing on variety, nutrient density, and portion sizes. By incorporating a wide range of nutrient-rich foods, we can ensure that our bodies receive the essential vitamins and minerals they need to thrive.

Mindful Choices: Quality over Quantity

To achieve a balanced diet, Ms. Frimpong urged attendees to prioritize nutrient density over sheer quantity. This means selecting foods that offer high nutritional value relative to their calorie content. By doing so, we can fuel our bodies optimally while maintaining a healthy weight.

A Roadmap to Wellness: Reducing Sugar, Saturated Fat, and Sodium Intake

Ms. Frimpong highlighted the importance of being mindful about the types of calories we consume. Attendees were encouraged to limit their intake of added sugars and saturated fats. This awareness can help prevent chronic diseases and promote heart health. Furthermore, Ms. Frimpong stressed the need to reduce sodium intake, as excessive salt consumption is linked to hypertension and other health concerns.

Embracing Change: Making Healthier Food Choices

The session concluded with an inspiring call to action – a shift towards healthier food and beverage choices. Ms. Frimpong emphasized that this journey is not about depriving ourselves, but rather about making conscious decisions that prioritize our well-being. By selecting whole grains, lean proteins, and an array of colorful fruits and vegetables, we can pave the way for a healthier future.

In a world where fad diets and conflicting information abound, Ms. Ivy P Frimpong’s session at The Gathering Place provided a refreshing and informed perspective on how to cultivate a healthful relationship with food. Through understanding the nuances of serving sizes, embracing gradual changes, and focusing on nutrient-dense choices, attendees left the program equipped with the tools they need to embark on a journey of wellness that will span a lifetime.

My name is Sister Zwennes, and I hail from Ghana, currently serving in the Cape Verde Praia Mission. Looking back to 2017, after completing high school, I moved to Accra-Ghana to live with my sister and brother-in-law. During that time, my brother-in-law introduced the topic of missionary work to me. However, I felt hesitant and lacked the desire to embark on such a path. Undeterred, my family supported me in obtaining my patriarchal blessings, believing that one day the spirit would guide me towards missionary service.

Over the years, while pursuing my education and working, I experienced a persistent and profound calling to engage in missionary work. I knew it was time to heed the voice that beckoned me towards this divine service. Through sincere prayer, studying inspiring talks, and seeking divine guidance, a conference address by Prophet Nelson resonated deeply within me, confirming that it was time to embark on this sacred journey.

With newfound determination, I wholeheartedly dedicated myself to the cause of missionary work, realizing that I needed to share the joy of the gospel and help others come unto Christ. Reflecting on the blessings and positive transformations I had experienced as a member of His church, I felt indebted to God, inspiring me to declare boldly, “I will go and do the things which the Lord has commanded me” –1 Nephi 3:7. My confidence and assurance grew as I embraced my identity and purpose through the teachings of the Church.

The scripture verse, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and everything will be given” (Matthew 6:33), instilled in me a sense of duty and dispelled any lingering fears. When I shared my calling with my sister and brother-in-law during a family home evening, they were amazed. Encouragingly, they supported me in prayer and offered their assistance to fulfill my missionary aspirations. My brother-in-law, who was then the Bishop of the Tema Ward 1 in Tema Ghana Stake, continued guiding me with relevant talks and counsel, even after his release from the position.

With the support of my family, I approached my Stake President, completed the necessary preparations, and underwent my endowment. As the days passed, my excitement soared, leading to the moment when I received my mission call—an experience beyond words.

For anyone facing uncertainty but feeling the desire to serve, I urge you to rely on the guidance of the Spirit. “All things which are good cometh from God” (Moroni 7:12), and through faith, even after numerous years, I embarked on this missionary journey. The blessings and experiences that followed are immeasurable, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity.

Through this journey, I have come to know that my Heavenly Father loves and supports me in my aspirations for greatness. My unshakeable testimony in the truthfulness of the scriptures and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is a firm foundation. The Book of Mormon serves as an additional testament to the divinity of Jesus Christ.

Embracing the divine commission of the Lord wanting me to “go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Ghost: ‘lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen (Matthew 28:19-20), I am confident in my ability to fulfill this sacred duty, just as you can too. So, let us all “GO AND DO” the Lord’s work with determination and love for our fellow beings.

May this testimonial inspire you to seek divine guidance and embrace your unique journey in serving God and spreading His message of love and hope.

– Sister Maame Efua K. Zwennes

The Tema Ghana Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints embarked on an inspiring endeavor that left a lasting mark on the community. The All-Africa Service Project held in the heart of Tema Newtown. With brooms in hand and hearts brimming with goodwill, members of the stake converged on this lively area to partake in a massive cleaning exercise that aimed to restore the sparkle to the neighborhood.

A Gathering of Purpose

The 2023 All-Africa Service Project held by the Tema Ghana Stake was more than just a cleaning exercise; it was a celebration of communal spirit and a deep-seated dedication to giving back. Tema Newtown, a bustling neighborhood known for its rich cultural heritage, had the honor of being the canvas for this act of service. Members from different congregations within the stake came together, embodying the principle of unity that serves as a cornerstone of their faith.

A Transformative Cleanup

The streets of Tema Newtown buzzed with a sense of purpose as volunteers donned their gloves, grabbed brooms, and set to work. The scope of the project was impressive—it encompassed the cleaning of the durbar grounds, the bustling lorry station, the bustling gurtars, and the surrounding streets. What emerged was a powerful testament to what a collective effort can achieve.

Beyond the Broom: Fostering Connections

While the primary objective was to restore cleanliness to the area, the event extended beyond physical cleaning. It became a platform for fostering connections, bridging gaps, and building relationships. As members of the stake engaged with the community, sharing laughter, stories, and conversations, they cemented their commitment to being positive contributors to the well-being of Tema Newtown.

An Act of Love and Reverence

The cleaning exercise was an embodiment of the values upheld by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Service, in its purest form, became a vehicle for expressing love and reverence for the community and its people. It wasn’t merely about picking up litter; it was about demonstrating that every corner of the world, no matter how big or small, deserves care and attention.

Leaving a Lasting Legacy

As the sun began to set on the day of the service project, the impact of the collective efforts was palpable. The durbar grounds regained their vibrancy, the lorry station looked refreshed, and the streets appeared ready to welcome brighter days. But beyond the visible transformation, an intangible legacy had been left—the memory of a day when a diverse group came together to serve a common cause.

A Call to Continue

The 2023 All-Africa Service Project in Tema Newtown is a reminder that service knows no bounds. It’s a call to action, urging each of us to look beyond ourselves and find ways to contribute to the betterment of our communities.
