2024 Stake Mission

We invite you to “think celestial” by doing all that President Nelson has asked us to do this year, and a few others such as the following;

  • Become more holy as individuals and as families.
  • Do not miss sacrament this coming year, unless it is absolutely necessary.
  • Read the Book of Mormon and seek to repent and keep the commandments of God.
  • Be peacemakers at home and in your communities.

TEMA STAKE HISTORY

The Tema Ghana Stake was formed on April 23, 2006. The Accra Ghana Christiansborg Stake had grown sufficient in numbers of members that a second stake could be created, giving birth to the Tema Ghana State and later to two more stakes within 15 years of its creation. Elder Sheldon F. Child, who presided over the conference to reorganize the stakes, called Daniel Yirenya-Tawiah as the first Stake President, Keith Dadzie as First Counselor, and John Koblah Esiape as Second Counselor. The historic multi-stake conference was held at the Accra International Conference Center.

The founding Tema Ghana Stake consisted of 7 units: Tema 1, Tema 2, Ashaiman, Teshie 1, Teshie 2, Nungua 1 and Nungua 2. Within five years of its founding, the amount of units within the Stake almost doubled in number from seven to thirteen.

On the 6th of June in 2011, tragedy hit the Stake leadership with the passing of President Keith Dadzie. In August, the presidency was therefore reorganized with Daniel Yirenya-Tawiah remaining as President, John Esiape as First Counselor and Isaac Kofi Morrison (who was then serving as the Bishop of the Lebanon Ward,) as Second Counselor.

In April 2012, President Daniel Yirenya-Tawiah was called as an Area Seventy and into the Third Quorum of the Seventy. He was therefore released as Stake President and Isaac Kofi Morrison was called as the new Tema Ghana Stake President. That conference was presided over by Elder Tad R. Callister. To complete the new presidency, Isaac Kwabena Abankwa was called as First Counselor and Charles Kingsley Ajeigbe as Second Counselor.

The Stake continued to expand and was divided in 2015 to create the Ashaiman Ghana Stake. Isaac K. Abankwa became the then President of the Tema Ghana Stake and Isaac K. Morrison became the new Ashaiman Stake President. The Teshie Nungua section of the Stake also became part of the Accra Christiansborg Stake in the 2012 reorganization. Isaac K. Morrison was sustained as a General Authority Seventy during the April 2022 General Conference of the Church.

Eventually, the Teshie Nungua area became an autonomous stake. The Ashaiman and Tema Stakes were again put together and reorganized to form a third stake, the Ashaiman Bethlehem Stake, in 2021.

The Tema Stake is noted for its very active choir, and dynamic young adult group. The current Stake Presidency continues to lead with a determination to build testimonies, grow leadership, promote members spiritual and temporal self-reliance, and continue to teach the doctrine of the restoration – all in the midst of the challenging COVID 19 pandemic era.

Message from previous stake president

The past two years have been particularly difficult for all of God’s children around the world. Coronavirus has brought a lot of pain and anguish into many homes. Many have lost loved ones, and sources of livelihood have been affected due to the negative economic impact of the pandemic. We invite God’s children everywhere to join hands in relieving those in pain and despair, and in restoring hope to the hopeless as the Savior would do it, in His name, even the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

-President Isaac Kwabena Abankwah
