There was an atmosphere of excitement, learning and sisterhood at the Tema Stake Center on Saturday, 8 August 2026, as sisters and young women from all eight stakes gathered for a special program focused on empowering women through practical skills, faith and self-reliance.
Under the theme “Empowering Women Through Skills, Faith & Self-Reliance,” the program created a space where participants could learn useful skills, gain important knowledge and, most importantly, support and learn from one another.
The day featured a range of practical workshops, including banking and finance, cupcake decoration, floral arrangement, tie and dye, and body butter making. Each session offered participants an opportunity to learn something new that could be applied in their homes, personal lives and potentially even developed into income-generating opportunities.
Building Financial Confidence
One of the important aspects of the program was the emphasis on financial knowledge.
Participants were taught about banking, managing finances and other essential financial principles that can help individuals make better decisions about their resources and prepare for the future.
The financial education component reinforced the idea that self-reliance is not only about learning a practical trade. It also involves understanding how to responsibly manage what we have and developing the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate everyday life.
Creativity Meets Opportunity
The practical workshops brought plenty of energy to the program.
Sisters and young women participated in hands-on activities such as cupcake decoration, floral arrangement, tie and dye, and body butter production. The sessions were filled with interaction, creativity and plenty of encouragement as participants learned new techniques and shared their own experiences.
For many, these were more than simply fun activities. They represented skills that could potentially be developed further for personal use, family needs or future entrepreneurial opportunities.
Leadership Present and Engaged
The support of Church leadership was also evident throughout the program.
Members of the Tema Stake Presidency took an active part in the event, demonstrating their support for the sisters and young women and their commitment to initiatives that strengthen and empower members.
The Relief Society Presidency was also actively involved in supporting the members throughout the program. Their presence and encouragement contributed to the welcoming atmosphere and helped ensure that participants could fully engage in the day’s activities.
The leadership participation served as an important reminder that empowering women is a shared responsibility and that members are supported as they seek to develop spiritually, personally and practically.
Eight Stakes, One Sisterhood
Perhaps one of the most significant features of the program was the coming together of sisters from all eight stakes.
The gathering created an opportunity for women and young women from different communities to meet new people, exchange ideas and strengthen relationships. What could have simply been a series of workshops became a broader celebration of unity and sisterhood.
Throughout the day, conversations, laughter and shared experiences filled the venue, creating an atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the theme.
A Day to Remember
By the end of the program, participants had gained more than new practical skills. They had shared experiences, built relationships, learned important principles about self-reliance and been reminded of the strength that comes from supporting one another.
The program demonstrated that empowerment can begin with something as simple as learning a new skill, understanding how to manage finances, sharing knowledge with another person or simply having a community that believes in you.
For the sisters and young women who participated, 8 August was a day of learning, creativity, faith, friendship and encouragement—a day that truly embodied the message:
